A heat wave is on the way! A large dome of hot air will push into metro Detroit starting Friday and continuing through the entire weekend with highs into the 90s.
With daytime highs well into the 90s on Saturday (could be the hottest day of the year, so far) and rising into the low 90s on Sunday, you can expect warm and muggy nights with temperatures holding in the 70s.
As temperatures soar, so will the humidity. The heat index will climb into the mid 90s on Friday, but it will feel more like 100 degrees or hotter both Saturday and Sunday. This type of dangerous heat will warrant at least a Heat Advisory, but even an Excessive Heat Warning certainly looks feasible, especially Saturday.
The chance for rain and storms looks low for most of the weekend. However, if storms do pop-up, it looks more likely on Sunday as a cold front slips through the region later in the day.
The Climate Prediction Center shows a trend for warmer-than-average temperatures through the first week of July with the hottest weather focused over the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley and the Northeast.
