Shaun Wheeler, 39, is now charged with First Degree Murder and Felony firearms in connection with the shooting death of his wife Cory Ehlers on Monday morning in their Rochester Hills home.

Rochester Hills District Judge Lisa Asadoorian ordered Wheeler to be held with no bond and no contact with her family or the man with whom she was allegedly having an affair.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff Detective who presented evidence to the judge to authorize the arrest warrant, the couple argued Monday morning. Wheeler went to the garage and grabbed a 9mm handgun, put it into his pocket and went back inside.  They continued to argue and Wheeler pulled the gun and shot his wife in the head once.

She fell onto the couch and he shot her a second time in the head, according to the evidence presented. Wheeler then drove to the Sheriff Substation, waived his rights and said what happened. Wheeler also said Cory had signed divorce papers.

The couple has two young kids, ages 8 and 9, and they are now living with their maternal grandmother. Wheeler also has a 14-year-old son prior to this marriage, according to his family.

Wheeler’s parents were in court this morning, but too distraught to talk other than to say this is devastating for everyone involved.

Wheeler is set to be back in court on March 22 for a probably cause hearing and March 29 for a preliminary exam.  He has asked for a court appointed attorney.  He’s facing life without parole if convicted.
