The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office say the kayaker they pulled from Pleasant Lake on Wednesday night is 43-year-old Waterford resident Thomas Barber.

Investigators say they got a call from a person living on the lake who heard screams for help. He tried to paddle boat out to save him but Barber submerged under the water.

Dive teams spent hours searching the lake and found Barber under 15 feet of water.

“This is like a red flag, my grand kids come here all the time,” said Lila Ball, who lives on the lake.

Some neighbors are considering cutting back on boat use, like Tim Watts. He owns a B&B and is going to change how boats are used.

“I’m re-writing the laws, the rules for being able to go out uses boats,” Watts said.
