The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office is warning residents to beware of a recent local phone scam.
Calls have been made to citizens from someone claiming to represent the county sheriff's office. The caller tells the resident that a warrant is out for their arrest and that they must wire money to avoid the arrest.
Undersheriff Jeremy Howe said that the Lapeer County Sheriff's Department will never make calls requiring people to wire money.
If you are contacted, Howe says to call the Lapeer County Sheriff's office immediately at (810) 667-0440.
