Lena Epstein, a republican candidate for Michigan's open seat in the 11th Congressional District, said liberal democrats might think it's okay to be mean and discriminatory against those who are Trump supporters.
Epstein says the Franklin Hills Country Club canceled her fundraising event that was supposed to take place Wednesday night.
Epstein says she got a call late last week from a board member telling her that they voted to cancel her event and that it was because of her political views.
“Several days ago, I was told that a fundraiser being held for me at Franklin Hills Country Club, where my family has been members for generations had been canceled. Upon hearing this, I was upset, but did not want to make the issue public. The situation escalated when it was published on social media, and picked up by a news outlet. After seeing what’s been happening across the country to Republicans like Sarah Sanders and Pam Bondi, I wanted the opportunity to share what happened to me."
Suneel Gupta, a democrat also vying for the same seat in Congress, was able to hold a fundraiser at the same country club recently.
Gupta released the following statement to 7 Action News:
"Decent America will never embrace a President who spews hate, or a candidate like Lena Epstein who publicly supports his hateful policies. The people of Michigan will never stand for it. Ms. Epstein said she was hurt by the discrimination, but her policies are discriminatory to entire groups of people.
