A man has been shot to death on Detroit's east side, police say.

The incident happened just before 6 a.m. on Sunday.

The Detroit Police say that two men got into a fist fight at the Cabana Motel, 12291 Harper Ave. The suspect pulled a gun out and shot and killed the other man.

Police have identified the victim as man in his late 30s or early 40s, but aren't releasing the name just yet. Family members were at the hospital this morning where the victim was pronounced dead.

As the investigation continues, police are reviewing surveillance video of the scene.

While the neighborhood where the shooting took place has been under close watch, police say, today's violence is a stark reminder of ongoing issues plaguing the community, and the need for people to resolve disputes peacefully rather than using a gun.
