A man is in custody after attempting to steal a police vehicle outside of Little Caesars Arena on Easter Sunday.
The man jumped into the running police cruiser and drove about 100 feet, before crashing a barricade outside of Little Caesars Arena.
The vehicle belonged to Detroit Transit Police, operated by The Detroit Department of Transportation. Officers were just steps away from the running vehicle, investigating a disabled DDOT bus when the suspect made his move and jumped into the car.
Transit Police were able to quickly arrest the man after he crashed into the barricade. The area was not very crowded and no one was seriously injured.
Transit Police will release the man’s name when he is formally charged.
