The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for Sunday, June 17.
MDEQ says Sunday will be an action day for elevated levels of ozone. It is in effect for St. Clair, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee and Monroe counties.
People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation.
These activities include:
- Refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling
- Using gasoline powered lawn equipment
- Using charcoal lighter fluid
MDEQ urges residents to carpool, bike to work and delay/combine errands.
It is recommended by MDEQ that active children and adults, and people with respiratory diseases like asthma, limit prolonged outdoor exertion.
