Metro Detroit councilman charged in wrong-way crash that killed two

A Wolverine Lake city councilman has been charged in a wrong-way crash that killed two people in December 2017.

According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, 59-year-old Michael Gerard Stack is charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death and one count of open intoxicant in his vehicle.

It is alleged that Stack was driving on southbound I-275 near Cherry Hill Rd. in Canton about 10:36 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2017. Stack allegedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a vehicle traveling northbound on I-275.

Shannon McIntyre, 32, and Nicholas Pare, 33, were killed in the crash.

During the investigation, there was a bottle of alcohol in Stack's car. He resigned from his role on the city council on Jan. 4, 2018.

Stack was arraigned on those charges Tuesday morning and given a personal bond.

The Village of Wolverine Lake Municipal Office has received credible information that Wolverine Lake resident and council member mike stack was involved in an accident on i-275 in Canton Township, on Tuesday, December, 12th and was treated for his injuries. We are heartbroken over the loss of life in this incident. our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected and their loved ones. Michigan State Police is conducted an investigation we will wait for the outcome before any additional statement is made.
