Metro Detroit police officer helps woman give birth in apartment bathroom

A Bloomfield Township police officer, who is also a mother, is being hailed a hero this week after she helped a woman deliver a baby in an apartment bathroom.

According to police, officers responded to the Wethersfield Apartments on Saturday for a call of a woman in labor.

Police say the woman was in a small bathroom inside the apartment.

Officer Carlson, who was one of the responding officers, found the mother in active labor and knew the baby would be arriving soon.

Being a mother herself, Officer Carlson stayed with the mom and assisted the Bloomfield Township Fire Department with the delivery of a healthy baby girl.

Officer Carlson then went to the hospital with the family and had her picture taken with the baby.

"Mom did great, the baby is beautiful, it was an honor to help bring her into the world," Officer Carlson said.
