A 23-year-old New Hudson man has been arrested for allegedly abusing his girlfriend's 5-month-old baby when she wasn't home.

The baby, suffering from multiple injuries consistent with child abuse, was in the emergency room at Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital.

A CPS caseworker determined the child and its mother resided with the mother's boyfriend in the 30700 block of Jeffrey Ct. in New Hudson.

The baby had internal injuries and visible injuries to the face, head and abdomen. The mother confirmed that the baby had only been in the care of herself or her boyfriend over the last several days.

Police say the mother reported she had begun noticing bruising on the child earlier in the week and contacted its doctor. As the bruising became more pronounced, she sought immediate medical care.

Her boyfriend was located by police at his place of employment and was interviewed by detectives. Police say it was determined that he had physically abused the baby when she wasn't home.

CPS and detectives are continuing the investigation. Criminal charges are pending.

The baby remains in the hospital at this time.
