Michigan State Police are investigating a man who may have attempted to gain influence by presenting himself as a state trooper.

Detectives executed a search warrant at Maplewood Drive in White Lake Township and arrested a 42-year-old man on an outstanding civil warrant.

Police say further investigation revealed that during a search of his home, MSP badges, ammunition and other illegal items were located in his household.

Detectives are currently reaching out to the public to see if anyone has ever been stopped or involved in a traffic stop by the suspect.

MSP says if a driver has any doubt if they are being stopped by a real police officer, they should keep driving, turn on their emergency flashers and contact 911 to verify if that is a real police officer.

Anyone with information is asked to call the MSP Metro South Post at 734-287-5000.
