A motorcycle driver and his passenger have died in a crash on S. Dixie Highway near Kelly Road in LaSalle Township.

On Thursday, police say a 2003 Dodge Neon, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Ottawa Lake, was traveling south on Dixie Highway.

The vehicle then crossed the centerline and struck a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was traveling north, head-on, police say.

The driver of the motorcycle, 53-year-old David Dittmar from Carleton, and his 45-year-old passenger, Casey Boudrie, were both killed due to injuries suffered in the crash.

Police say the impact of the collision was so severe, it immediately caused the motorcycle to catch on fire.

The driver of the Neon suffered non life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Dixie Highway was closed for several hours as Michigan State Police was investigating.

Police say alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Trooper Tom Markey of the Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
