A 34-year-old man reportedly robbed a woman and carjacked a cab driver in Hazel Park on Tuesday.

Around 9:45 p.m., Hazel Park Police responded to a residence on Mahan Street on the report of a strong arm robbery where the suspect stole the woman's phone that contained her debit card and $46.

Police say the victim was an acquaintance of the suspect who left the location on foot when the victim called police. Less than a half hour later, a 54-year-old cab driver reported he was carjacked near 10 Mile and Dequindre.

According to police, the suspect pointed a knife at the victim's shoulder and demanded he get out of the vehicle. He parked the car and was shoved by the suspect out of the car.

Police say the victim tried to get back in the car and fell to the ground, possibly injuring his shoulder as the suspect drove away. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Around 11:30 p.m., the robbery victim reported that the suspect returned to her residence in the stolen car and threatened her, and then left. Police stayed in the area in case the man returned again.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., police saw the suspect in the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. He did not stop and a pursuit began at Ten Mile and Couzens onto the freeways of I-696 to SB I-75 to EB I-94. The suspect exited at the Van Dyke exit and struck another vehicle.

He was taken into custody and the knife used in the carjacking was recovered. The people in the struck vehicle were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
