A 15-year-old ninth grade student at Port Huron Northern High School was arrested for fabricating a school shooting threat.

The school resource officer was made aware of an alleged threat posted on social media to shoot up the school, and the threat was immediately investigated along with members of the Port Huron Police Department.

On Thursday, the teen was arrested after he admitted there was no original threat and that he fabricated the information.

The teen was lodged in the Macomb County Juvenile Center. Police will be seeking charges of filing a false report of a felony, a 4-year-felony, and obstructing police, a 2-year felony.

The Port Huron Police Department says they take threats or alleged threats of school violence very seriously and are investigated thoroughly.

"If a person is found to have made false allegations or reports, the Port Huron Police Department will seek criminal charges through the St. Clair County Prosecutors Office," police said in a release.
