DETROIT (WXYZ) — Cooks and cashiers at McDonald's will go on strike Friday to demand $15 an hour and union rights.
There has been a surge in strikes and organizers by workers demanding $15 an hour and union rights, including those in tech, fast food, food service and hospitality, healthcare, airports and security. Earlier this month, Detroit nursing home workers demanded $15, a union and an end to mandatory overtime.
Workers are demanding union rights specifically because they say it is the best way to tackle problems of low wages, sexual harassment and discrimination.
The rally will be held at 1 p.m. outside of the McDonald's location on Conant Street in Detroit.
