The Detroit Zoo is the latest organization looking to take part in the rebirth of the city of Detroit.

The zoo is trying to develop a large aquarium on the riverfront downtown. A zoo official says it is something they've intended to build since 1993.

However, while plans have never formally emerged over the years, discussion have now picked up.

One possible location under consideration is the site of the Ford Auditorium, next to Hart Plaza. However, that is only one possibility and zoo officials say any plans are still in a very preliminary stage.

However, zoo officials believe a downtown aquarium could draw 1 million visitors to the city a year.
