Thousands of fans are making the trip to Little Caesars Arena, some from hundreds of miles away, for the first round of the NCAA Tournament's March Madness.

Many of them are already saying the city of Detroit is better than they imagined, and that the city is headed in the right direction.

Fans from as far away as Alabama, California and Colorado Springs are talking up the city.

The NCAA tournament is hitting Detroit, just as a recent study named the city as the saddest in America.

Fans we spoke to are disagreeing.

"I’ve really enjoyed Detroit so far, there’s a lot of fun things to see a lot of art and theaters," says Hope Bonitz from Alabama.

Even some of the teams are getting in on the Detroit bandwagon, with Purdue and Bucknell already tweeting about how impressed they are with LCA.
