Six people, including a doctor and two pharmacists have been indicted on charges of running a $9.6 million illegal opioid distribution conspiracy.
Pharmacists, Enitan Ogundipe, Amir Rafi and Abioden Fabode, Dr. Vasan Deshikachar and two recruiters Niesheia and Andre Tibu are all facing charges including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and unlawful distribution of controlled substances among others.
According to DEA Special Agent in Charge Timothy Plancon the drug operation started in January of 2015 and in that time they dispensed more than 300,000 opioid prescriptions, mainly oxycodone and oxymorphone.
“We’re talking about hundreds of thousands of pills and frankly millions of dollars of net worth out of this,” Agent Plancon said. “And those pills are all being obtained and trafficked in Michigan and even beyond into other states. So it’s a pretty big network even though it was only six people.”
Plancon said Ogundipe, Rafi and Fabode all filled the prescriptions Dr. Deshikachar wrote for patients the Tibu’s recruited.
Each of the indicted except for Dr. Deshikachar have been arraigned. Dr. Deshikachar is being transferred to Michigan as he now lives in Florida.
