Suspected gunman killed during shootout with WSU police in Detroit

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A suspected gunman is dead following a shootout with Wayne State University Police.

Wayne State Police responded to Third Avenue and Peterboro Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to reports of shots fired.

Police say when officers approached the suspect, he started shooting.

Wayne State officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

The officers were not hurt.

Police are still investigating what led up to the shootout.
