DETROIT (WXYZ) — A suspected gunman is dead following a shootout with Wayne State University Police.
Wayne State Police responded to Third Avenue and Peterboro Street around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to reports of shots fired.
Officer involved shooting happened at 3rd and Peterboro, about a mile away from campus. It’s not uncommon for @waynestate police to patrol off campus in the midtown area. Police say when officers approached the suspect, he started shooting.
Wayne State officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
The officers were not hurt.
Police are still investigating what led up to the shootout.
