EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 9-year-old girl is recovering from second and third-degree burns after an accident inside a classroom in Eastpointe.
The school district calls it an "unfortunate accident" while Danyelle Evans, the girl's mother, says it could have been prevented.
Dakhari says that her fourth grade class at Koepsell Elementary was having a party Friday when a kettle with hot water, used for making play dough, spilled on her.
"They should have never had hot water, cord loose where kids can trip," Evans said. "It should never have even been that hot."
Dakhari was treated for burns to her arms and stomach.
The school district says safety is a top priority and they will continue to look into this.
