ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. (WXYZ) — The man accused in the deadly assault at the Kapones Sports Tavern in St. Clair Shores is due in court Friday for a preliminary hearing.
Following the victim's death in the assault, charges for Hatum Akrawi were changed to second degree murder.
Prosecutors allege that while inside Kapones Sports Tavern, Akrawi allegedly punched 47-year-old Shawn Kubic in the head with significant force.
Kupic immediately lost consciousness and later died from his injuries.
A GoFundMe page has been created to support Kubic's young daughter Kylee in his absence.
If convicted, Akrawi could serve life in prison.
