A Macomb County neighborhood is on high alert after someone was caught on camera breaking into cars.
According to residents, the Elan Estates neighborhood is normally quiet, a family friendly place where people feel safe.
However, after a string of car break-ins early Thursday morning, one man isn’t so sure anymore.
"I want the guy caught," said a man who didn't want to be identified, who lives in the neighborhood.
It happened under the night sky, when most people are sleeping, sometime between 1:00 am and 5:00 am.
The neighbor tells us he left early Friday morning to catch a flight to Alabama, when he noticed his car was broken into.
"He stole a couple of firearms out of my vehicle, and got a couple hundred dollars in cash."
The thief went from car to car.
"Come to find out you have someone going through the neighborhood going through peoples vehicles," said the neighbor.
The thief hit several cars on Delena and Stafford. Surveillance video from a neighbors home captured the thief in action.
"We always felt very comfortable there, and he kind of violates that and kind of changed our perception of that," said the neighbor.
Word quickly spread about the overnight break-ins on neighborhood app. Neighbors responding saying they too had their vehicles broken into.
"Now every single night cars will be in the garage, doors locked our house will be locked our alarm will be armed."
Several neighbors did file a police report with the Macomb County Sheriffs Office. Law enforcement reminding everyone, always be vigilant in your neighborhood and never keep valuables inside your vehicle overnight.
