A worker at the MORC Autism Center in Clinton Township is accused of assaulting a four-year-old boy, and the child's mother wasn't notified until days later.
"An entire week had gone by before I was notified that anything had ever happened with my son," said Misty Wood who filed a report with Clinton Township Police.
Wood also says MORC administrators failed to file an incident report with her son's social worker at Macomb County Community Mental Health.
Wood says her son had been complaining that he had a "boo-boo" on his arm, but she had no reason to think it had anything to do with the place where her son is supposed to learn, thrive, and feel safe.
But then when one of the administrators called on Wednesday to schedule a routine meeting to create new goals for her son, Wood says the woman said, "By the way," and then proceeded to say there had been an incident involving her son.
The administrator reportedly said that a faculty member witnessed her son being grabbed in a rough manner and dragged down a hallway by a technician.
Administrators told Woods that they didn't think they needed to file an incident report because they didn't believe her son had suffered physical harm.
"I'm mad that this technician is still working with other kids. She was only taken off his case. She wasn't terminated," said Woods.
And it turns out that another parent recently pulled her son out of the center after the same technician reportedly refused to let her five-year-old son go to the bathroom, resulting in him urinating on himself.
"I was livid," said Megan Randlett. "He should be able to use the facilities when he needs to use the bathroom."
A spokesperson for the MORC says they are aware of Wood's complaint, and cooperating with police, and will take appropriate action after police complete their investigation.
