For high schoolers, the prom is one of the biggest moments in their lives.

One junior is helping 300 students, who can’t afford prom dresses, look their best on their big day!

ReWEARable is an organization founded by Danielle Lutz, a 16-year-old student from Birmingham. The non-profit is giving away free dresses, shoes and accessories.

Lutz said, “We’ve been collecting shoes and dresses and accessories the past year now and this is our big event today. Girls from the Detroit public schools will come and have a shopping experience but everything is free.”

Lutz helped other organizations collect dresses for two years before founding reWEARable.

“I just love to make everybody else so happy and see all the smiles on people’s faces when they get their own prom dresses.”

Some of the dresses have been worn before, but most are brand new with tags still on.

Lutz explained,“Not only did I post on social media and email and things like that to friends and family and get donations. Local stores in Birmingham and Marshall’s in Detroit, 24 of their stores have donated over 200 dresses to us.”

Lutz will attend prom for the first time this year.

“I’ve never been to prom and it’s definitely a special night and something that they will remember forever and to feel that special for just one night in high school I think it’s something they will remember forever.”

Lutz is already collecting items for next year’s events, if you would like to make a donation, go to: http://www.rewearable.net/
