MILFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Milford Township man was arrested after trying to elude police in Lyon Township.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says detectives were trying to locate the 39-year-old wanted fugitive who was in the area of W. Eight Mile Road and Pontiac Trail. The suspect vehicle, a Ford Contour, was seen turning into a gas station. Officials say the suspect then left his vehicle and entered the gas station.

When he came back, detectives tried to box in the suspect with their police vehicles. Officials say the suspect allegedly put his car in reverse and struck one of the undercover vehicles, pushing past it. A detective positioned his police vehicle in front of the suspect, but the suspect continued to drive at a high rate of speed and hit the police vehicle on the driver's side, pushing the vehicle out of the way.

Officials say the suspect then drove out of the gas station lot westbound on W. Eight Mile Road, although the vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage from the crash. Detectives tried to pursue the suspect, but had to terminate it because of poor road conditions.

The suspect vehicle was located inside the Novi Meadows Mobile Home Community, at an address in the 500 block of Eckschtay Street. The suspect was found hiding inside a residence near where he abandoned the vehicle and was taken into custody.

Officials say no one was injured in the incident.

The suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail on a three-count warrant for sexual assault from the South Lyon Police Department, a felony warrant for Assault with the Intent to do Great Bodily Harm less than Murder from Michigan State Police and a new charge of Felonious Assault with a Motor Vehicle from the intentional police vehicle crash.
