LAKE ANGELUS, Mich. (WXYZ) — 7 Action News has obtained new information into the arrest of Lake Angelus Police Chief Mike Farley.
He was stopped in nearby Keego Harbor on Friday night after Thanksgiving after someone called 911 to report him driving “like an idiot.”
Police cruiser video and audio show a 13-minute exchange with a Keego Harbor Officer stopping Farley, giving him roadside sobriety tests that Farley fails and a breathalyzer test that shows a .155 blood alcohol level – nearly double the legal limit in Michigan.
Audio between the officer and Farley established that he was the chief, he was carrying a gun in the vehicle and Farley said he had been drinking “four drinks” before the stop. As the case was developing, Farley can be heard saying, “Come on, man.” The officer then says, “I’m trying to be fair,” and Farley says, “Are you?”
As the officer places Farley under arrest, the officer says, “Don’t pull away from me.” And Farley responds, “Let go of me, I’m not resisting.”
The officer then says, “Don’t do that please, don’t do that,” and Farley says, “I’m getting in that car.”
Chief Farley was arraigned in 48th District Court on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated and is out on bond. As of Tuesday night, city officials in Lake Angelus had not taken any action to place Farley on leave or reduced duty.
