Wixom teen suffering from rare genetic disorder is in desperate need of bone marrow transplant

Jackson Pype is just 16-years-old, but has had to deal with challenging and painful health issues since he was just days old. The Walled Lake Central student suffers from a rare genetic disorder. It's not something that was diagnosed until Jackson was 12. That's when new genetic testing came along.

His mom Ronda says, "The easiest way to explain it is that his body's immune system never shuts off, so it causes inflammation everywhere throughout his whole system."

Jackson has been in and out of the hospital his whole life. Last April, he got an infection, then nerve pain, brain inflammation and he suffered a stroke. Jackson's doctor sent him to the National Institute of Health where his parents were told a bone marrow transplant is his best chance for survival.

"The thought behind getting a bone marrow transplant is that it would reset his system.. he has the potential to be cured.. that would be amazing for him," says Ronda Pype.

The bone marrow donor needs to be between 18 and 44 years-old. A simple cheek swab can determine if you're a match.

"You have the potential to save my son's life," says Ronda Pype.

"Please try and get tested if you can. Like my mom said. It's life or death," says Jackson.

Jackson's parents and brother are half matches. If no full match is found, Jackson's brother will donate his bone marrow, but that's a last resort.

"That is something that is very risky .. and very scary," says Ronda Pype.

Jackson's mom has had to quit her job in order to take care of him.

Because of that, friends have set up a gofundme page to help the family. If you'd like to donate, go to: https://www.gofundme.com/jacksonpype

Next weekend, there are events to support Jackson Pype. You can go and have the cheek swab test done in order to help Jackson or someone else in need.
