After 75 years of service, Superior Fish Company is closing.
The popular business became a source for Detroit Red Wings fans to purchase dead octopuses to throw on the ice rink in an age-old tradition for home playoff games.
The family-owned business, located in Royal Oak, confirmed that it would be closing after next week.
They released the following statement:
To everything there is a season, and now it is time to announce the closing of Superior Fish. For over 75 years, we have had the privilege of being of service to Royal Oak and the Greater Metropolitan Detroit area. We sincerely appreciate and thank you for your patronage and support.
Many thanks to our coworkers who have helped to make Superior Fish superior. Our last 'o-fish-al' day of full service will be Saturday, June 16. The week of June 18, we will have a Superior frozen sale and a Superior memento/garage sale on Friday, June 22 and Saturday, June 23
