Shield's Restaurant and Pizzeria will close on Mother's Day, but the closure won't be for too long.

The restaurant, located at 1476 W. Maple Road, will be undergoing a complete interior and exterior remodel. On May 13, Mother's Day, the business will close after business hours for 8 to 10 weeks to begin construction on the $1 million project.

"After 26 years, it's time to create a fresh, open look," said co-owner, Paul Andoni. "Our last day open will be Mother's Day, May 13. That night we will have an employee party after closing as a thank you. The remodel will start Monday, May 14. Our goal is to remain a vibrant local, family owned, community-oriented business for years to come as we have been since 1992."

According to a release, the remodel will include a new bar and bar area, new dining room, banquet room, the removal of the signature stage area, brand new bathrooms, reconfigured seating areas, and an expanded carry-out area as well as improved lighting throughout and a new parking lot.

The restaurant officially opened January 1992, and was previously known as Smith Brothers before being purchased by Paul and Peter Andoni.
