The St. Clair Drug Task Force shut down an illegal marijuana and hash oil growing site in Wales Township Thursday evening.

The Task Force launched 'Operation Hemp 2018' after receiving tips about the site. Officers executed a search warrant on Thursday around 6 p.m. at a home on Dunn Road.

During the bust, officers learned the people involved in the pot operation had no medical marijuana status. The 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman --both Wales Township residents-- were arrested and taken to the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center.

The Task Force seized 259 marijuana plants, valuing more than $1.5 million. Officers also seized:

  • $156,000 worth of processed marijuana
  • $1,000 worth of hash oil
  • $1,000 worth of marijuana wax
  • drug packaging material
  • growing equipment
  • digital scales
  • cash

“This is another situation where certain individuals believe they can flaunt the medical marijuana laws in the state of Michigan,” said Sheriff Tim Donnellon. “We will continue to arrest those who break the law, whether it involves marijuana or any other criminal activity.”
