Posted

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies are looking for a woman suspected of stealing personal items from unlocked vehicles in Orion Township.

A deputy on patrol located a suspicious vehicle in the 2600 block of Aubrey Drive with the door of the vehicle left in the open position.

The deputy made contact with the vehicle owner, who determined that a purse had been stolen. There were footprints in the snow leading to the vehicle from the roadway.

Deputies discovered additional thefts from vehicles in the area, along with receiving several reports from homeowners who had found that their unlocked vehicles had been ransacked and they had items stolen.

Overall, deputies responded to at least ten separate larceny from automobile reports in residential neighborhoods near Baldwin and Waldon Road.

Stolen items include electronic equipment, purses and other small items that can easily be carried away.

While investigating, deputies discovered that one homeowner's surveillance video captured a suspect being dropped off by a vehicle; that suspect was observed checking doors that had been left unlocked.

Deputies located two shoe prints in the snow and at least one person following in a vehicle.

All vehicles targeted were unsecured or left unlocked. No fore entry was used to gain access to any of the vehicles, police say.

The suspect is described as a white woman, between 5 feet and 5 feet 4 inches tall with a slender build and approximately 20 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

Officials remind residents to lock their vehicle doors. Park in garages if that is an option and do not leave valuables in your car, or lock them in your trunk and conceal them if you have no other option.
