A Warren business dedicated to helping others is in danger of closing its doors if they don't get help fast.
I Heart Dogs Animal Rescue finds itself without water after DTE contractors accidentally sliced a sewer line while installing a utility pole.
"Whether it was laundry, dishes, flushing toilets, all of the drains throughout the facility were backing up," said owner Dianne Reeves.
She called a contractor who discovered that a pole broke the line.
"It's a big problem, especially when you have over 55 dogs living here," Reeves said. "It's a sanitation problem. We need to give them water, just to drink. We have laundry, we have to sanitize bowls and water dishes...that's just the tip of the iceberg."
While volunteers are trying to help, there's worry that the dogs will have to be relocated, and the potential repair cost is quoted at more than $6,500 for sewer repairs alone.
DTE released the following statement in part:
“In accordance with normal procedures, DTE requested that the underground lines be marked with flags in advance of commencing with construction, but they were not. DTE will work with the impacted organization to ensure repairs to the lines are made quickly. We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused.”
Repairs could be done as early as tomorrow, which means the dogs won't have to go elsewhere.
