Police have confirmed one death due to severe wind.

A 36-year-old man from Waterford Township was killed Friday afternoon after he became trapped under a section of a large hardwood tree that broke free.

Deputies and Independence Township Fire Department responded to the scene on the 4700 block of Rattek.

The resident was working on his employer's property using a walk-behind skid steer while spreading mulch and leaves to the back of the property. That's when a large section of a tree broke free and landed on the victim.

According to police reports, the impact from the tree fall forced the victims head forward into the steering levers of the machine and pinned him, which contributed to the victim's death.
