LIVONIA, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Livonia Police Department saved a man who was threatening to jump onto a freeway.

On Dec. 17, police responded to the overpass over I-96, just west of Inkster, on the report of a man standing at the edge of the bridge.

Police say the Redford Township man was "distraught" and threatening to jump from the overpass.

Officers were able to engage him in conversation and de-escalate the situation, and the man was taken into protective custody.

Police say he was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
