WESTLAND, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Westland restaurant is opening their doors for a free dinner on Christmas Eve.

For the past three years, Rocky's Coney and Grill has offered a free Christmas Eve dinner for anyone who might not have plans.

The restaurant will be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

They serve a ham with green beans and potatoes with gravy.

The tradition has been so popular that the restaurant gave away hundreds of meals last year and expects to top that this year.

"Excellent idea, very nice to do that for people in the community," said customer Dennis Hamm.

Owner Chris Gjoka won't disclose how much the free meals will cost him. He says he is honored to offer the meals and stays all evening to meet and chat with diners.

He believes people need more support around Christmas than any other holiday.
