SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WXYZ) — Southfield police are asking for the public's help finding a man accused of taking pictures of a woman while she was in the fitting room at a local Target store.

Customers say they are disgusted and say you can never be too safe; you have to assume someone is always willing to violate your personal space in public.

"Who does that? A sick person," said Dionne Gideon, a customer who coming out of Target.

"It makes me feel nervous and angry for sure," said Regina Reid, another customer.

The incident happened on Jan. 3 just before 10 p.m. A woman says a man was taking videos and pictures of her while she was in the changing room. The woman told police she noticed the man's arm coming under the door, so she screamed and the man ran away.

"They have security," said Sean Patterson, a concerned customer. "They should be able to catch this guy as soon as it happens."

The woman told police the man called himself Deonte and spoke with her in the store prior to the incident. He told her he just moved to Michigan from Canada and wanted her name and phone number.

"He’s a pervert, and who knows what he would do with those pictures," said Dionne Gideon, a Target customer. "Who knows how that could implicate the person that he’s doing it to."

We reached out to Target for comment. They sent us a statement that reads:

This behavior is not tolerated at Target and we take this matter very seriously, as the safety and security of our guests is a top priority. Immediately, once the guest notified our team of this incident, we called police to the store and shared security footage with them for use in their investigation.

Still, some customers belief more security needs to be added to protect their privacy.

"It certainly makes me feel very uncomfortable and I will probably think twice before I use any of the fitting rooms anymore," Reid said.

Now customers say they’ll be more vigilant in public places and keep an eye out.

"Even as a woman, if I caught him doing that do you know I would want to punch him in his face," Gideon said. "I mean right then and there, so I hope they get him."

Police say after the victim screamed the suspect ran out of the Target into a light orange or red 2000’s Mustang. Officers say the suspect is a black man in his early 20s. He was wearing a red sweatshirt, black pants and a black beanie.

If you have any information call the Southfield Police Department.
