Despite the trade deadline ending a week ago, the Houston Astros have talked with the Tigers about possibly trading for Justin Verlander, according to a report by MLB Network's Jon Paul Morosi.

According to Morosi, the talks have come this month, which means they have happened after the deadline. He reports that it is unclear if there is momentum in the discussions.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported last week that Verlander had been placed on recovable waivers after his name came up at the trade deadline. Verlander was obviously not traded.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Verlander cleared the waivers, which means he is free to be traded this month or in the offseason.

The 34-year-old right-hander has two years and $56 million on his contract, as well as an option in 2020 for $22 million if he is in the top 5 of Cy Young voting in 2019.

Verlander has appeared in 23 games this season and has a 4.20 ERA and 1.409 WHIP.
