(WXYZ) -- Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson spoke to reporters Sunday about being selected as part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2021 class.

Johnson, whose selection was announced Saturday night during the NFL Honors television special, joins Barry Sanders as Detroit's only first-ballot Hall of Famers.

"They got me good," Johnson said in reference to the surprise visit by Hall of Fame president David Baker. "(My wife) said somebody knocked on the door...and I see this big figure through the glass, and I'm like 'that's not your friend...do I need to go get my shotgun?'"

"I go answer the door and peek around, and it took about two seconds for it to sink in, and my hair is just raised up."

"The culmination of all the work, the grind, all the ups and downs that you've been through, just to be able to excel at the level and be able to have the opportunity to be among such greats, I'm sleeping with a smile tonight," Johnson said immediately after receiving the Hall of Fame news.
