Golden Tate defends Calvin Johnson after negative comments about Lions

Detroit Lions WR Golden Tate defended former teammate Calvin Johnson when asked about Johnson's negative comments surrounding his time in Detroit.

Earlier this summer, Johnson told mediathat the Lions inability to win played a role in his decision to retire.

Johnson said, "I was stuck in my contract with Detroit, and they told me, they would not release my contract, so I would have to come back to them. I didn’t see the chance for them to win a Super Bowl at the time, and for the work I was putting in, it wasn’t worth my time to keep on beating my head against the wall … and not going anywhere."

Tate was asked for his thoughts on this following Sunday's practice. He responded by saying "I'm going to make to the choice to believe that there's a little bit more to that story."

Tate added, "I know Calvin loved the game of football. I know he gave it his all. But being the best at what you do. Being considered the best ever at what you do, and losing year in and year out... That's hard."
