Grosse Pointe South baseball sees confidence soar despite setbacks

"We started off really hot. We started off 10-0 which is actually the best start in Grosse Pointe South history," explained senior catcher Davis Graham. But part way through the season, that early success was threatened.

"No team usually is able to survive with their one and two out for that length of time," said head coach Dan Griesbaum.

Their number one and two pitchers were both out for about a month at a time with injuries. That didn’t stop the Blue Devils.

"We’ve had people who haven’t pitched all year step up. We fielded it really well," said Graham.

"You know teams have injuries. It’s common. Tigers going through it. Every body goes through it. It’s just a matter of other people stepping up and that’s exactly what they did," said Coach Griesbaum.

Now they're in the playoffs. Winners of five straight games. Getting ready to make the program’s eighth trip to the semifinals. They say their confidence is at an all-time high.

"We’ve known since day one that we can compete with anyone," Graham.

"We’re getting hot at just the right part of the season and I do expect big things to come," said pitcher Cameron Shook.

Grosse Pointe south faces Midland tomorrow at Michigan State at 2:30 pm.
