Joe Kocur said it all started with an idea at a bonfire.

He and his Red Wings teammates wanted to give back, and thought about putting on a softball game.

10 years later, countless families and children have felt the impact of the biggest day on the calendar for the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children.

Saturday, the softball games are at Duck Lake Pines Park. They begin at noon and the final game, featuring all of the day's celebrities, starts at 4:15 p.m.

Dylan Larkin, Danny DeKeyser, Jeff Blashill, Luke Glendening, Jimmy Howard, and Tyler Bertuzzi lead a list of the current Red Wings scheduled to participate.

Kocur's former teammates scheduled to participate include Dino Ciccarelli, Kris Draper, Darren McCarty, Chris Osgood, and Kirk Maltby.

WXYZ's Brad Galli will be in uniform, too.

This year's charity partners include

  • Wings of Mercy East Michigan
  • FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation
  • Team Huron Valley Special Olympics
  • Team Kendal Kidz
  • Play Like Jackson Foundation
  • The Shannon Gaber-Silverthorn Lakeland High School Public Service Scholarship

Tickets are available here. Duck Lake Pines Park is located at 1241 N. Duck Lake Rd, Highland, MI 48357.
