(WXYZ) — Jeff Blashill has worked this season on the final year of his contract, but it appears his job security isn't an issue.
The Red Wings are nearing a contract extension with Blashill, Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday on NBCSN.
Blashill and the team are expected "to get pen to paper and get something done" on a contract extension in the coming days, McKenzie said.
This isn't a major surprise. There's been talk for weeks, and months, about Ken Holland's confidence in Blashill behind the bench. Holland has continued to praise Blashill's work in developing the team's younger players.
The 45-year-old has a 130-142-47 record in four seasons in Detroit. The Red Wings made the playoffs in his first season, but have not reached the postseason in the following three seasons.
