ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) -- John Bonamego, who returned to his old job as Detroit Lions special teams coordinator earlier this year, is also returning to NFL training camp.
Bonamego served as Detroit's special teams coordinator during the 2013 and 2014 seasons before spending the next four years as head coach at Central Michigan.
“You don’t look back, you look forward," Bonamego said Wednesday when asked about his departure from CMU. "I’m a Detroit Lion, and I’m excited to be here.”
While Bonamego didn't dive into his past Wednesday, he previously acknowledged in May that his time as a head coach gave him a new perspective on being an assistant. The closest Bonamego got to talking about his past on Wednesday came when discussing the transition back into the NFL.
"Probably the biggest thing, the thing that changes most, is the players change every year, every week. It took a little time to catch up to that. There were some rule things that were obviously a switch, but I’d say it’s been pretty smooth, very seamless."
