(WXYZ) -- In an Instagram post Thursday afternoon celebrating the Astros' World Series championship, Justin Verlander thanked Detroit fans for their support.

World Champions!!! What an amazing ride this season was! Thank you to the entire @astrosbaseball organization and fans for making this so special. Also, thank you to all of #detroit for all the love! #houstonstrong #earnhistory

Verlander helped the Astros win their first World Series, with the decisive victory happening two months and a day after he was traded from Detroit.
