Clarkston, Detroit Edison, Southfield Christian win state titles

CLASS A: Clarkston 81, West Ottawa 38

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) -- Foster Loyer scored 40 points and Clarkston cruised to its second consecutive Class A championship Saturday with an 81-38 rout of West Ottawa at the Breslin Center.

Loyer, the 2018 'Mr. Basketball' award winner as the state's top player, shot 74 percent from the field. He is committed to play for Michigan State next year.

C.J. Robinson added 18 points and Taylor Currie had 13 for the Wolves (26-1.)

 

CLASS C: Detroit Edison 53, Glen Lake 38

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) -- Pierre Mitchell Jr. scored 17 points, Gary Solomon added 16, and Detroit Edison won its first-ever Class C championship Saturday with a 53-38 win over Maple City Glen Lake at the Breslin Center.

Detroit Edison (17-10) made its first appearance in the boys basketball finals one week after winning a girls basketball championship.

Deante Johnson and Brian Taylor Jr. each scored 10 points for the Pioneers.

 

CLASS D: Southfield Christian 64, Buckley 54

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) -- Harlond Beverly scored 23 points and Southfield Christian beat Buckley 64-54 on Saturday to claim the Class D championship at the Breslin Center.

This is Southfield Christian's fourth state title and first since winning three consecutive Class D championships from 2012-2014.

Caleb Hunter added 13 points, Bryce Washington had 12, and Da'Jion Humphrey had 11 for the Eagles (23-5.)
