(WXYZ) — The Detroit Sports Commission announced the matchups for the 16th annual Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic this summer at Wayne State.
The season-opening high school football event will take place Aug. 27-29 at Tom Adams Field on the WSU Campus. It will feature six games over three days with teams from multiple divisions and powerhouse conferences.
The classic will begin on Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. with Canton vs. Dearborn Fordson before Chippewa VAlley faces off against Detroit Catholic Central at 7 p.m.
Then, Friday will feature Southfield High School for the Arts & Technologies will take on Birmingham Groves at 4 p.m. followed by Lake Orion vs. Macomb Dakota at 7 p.m.
Finally, Saturday afternoon will include Detroit Cass Tech against Grandville at 1 p.m. and River Rouge vs. Muskegon Mona Shores at 4 p.m. – a cross-state battle of the Division 3 and 2 state champs, respectively.
“The Detroit Sports Commission is pleased to announce the exciting game match-ups for the 2020 Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic and the extension of our extremely positive partnership with Xenith,” Detroit Sports Commission Senior Vice President Dave Beachnau said in a release. “The event will feature a must-see slate of games and as a result of Xenith’s support, we have a great collection of teams from schools throughout the state, and the colorful pageantry of bands and cheerleaders for fans to experience this signature event in the city of Detroit.”
Xenith is returning as the title sponsor for the event and will continue on until 2022.
