Michigan beat Michigan State on Saturday, and the Wolverines celebrated on Spartan Stadium's turf with the Paul Bunyan trophy.
That wasn't by accident.
Michigan's staff posted photos this past week of the Spartans celebrating at Michigan Stadium last season, Tyree Kinnel told reporters
"Back when I played, really all through the rivalry, the Paul Bunyan trophy was presented in the locker room," Jim Harbaugh told WXYZ.
"That changed when Coach Dantonio came to Michigan State."
So the message was clear, after the game, Kinnel told reporters, the Wolverines had permission to celebrate on the field.
"When we went up there in 2016, we said we're gonna take the high road and keep the trophy in the locker room, but that's the new tradition, because the very next year they were back on the field," Harbaugh said.
