Detroit may finally be getting a PGA Tour event.

The tour and the city have been in talks and are 'close' to bringing a PGA Tour event to Detroit Golf Club, the Detroit News' Tony Paul reports.

It would mark the first PGA Tour event in the city's limits.

The event will likely move onto the PGA schedule in summer of 2019, according to the News.

It's widely believed Dan Gilbert has been pushing to sponsor a golf event in Detroit for years. Quicken Loans sponsored The National from 2014-17, but backed out after last year's event in Washington, D.C.

“As we’ve said from the beginning, we remain interested in exploring ways to highlight the energy and revitalization taking place in Detroit," Quicken Loans told WXYZ tonight.

"A prime golf event, featuring the world’s best players, continues to be something we would be interested in pursuing as a way to showcase our great American city. As a rule, the company does not comment on rumors or speculation."

The last PGA Tour event in Michigan was the Buick Open in 2009.

In 2016, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler had plans to join Mark Wahlberg and Justin Timberlake for a primetime event at DGC. The plans ultimately fell through.
