Former Detroit Red Wings assistant coach Tony Granato has been named the head coach of Team USA hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
Joining Granato will be Chris Chelios as an assistant coach.
Other assistant coaches include Ron Rolston, who is from Fenton, as well as Keith Allain and Scott Young.
Granato spent the past three seasons behind the bench for the Red Wings, and recently became the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers hockey team.
Since retiring, Chelios has worked in the front office for the Red wings as an adviser before joining the team behind the bench in 2015-16.
“We’re thrilled to have such an experienced group leading our men’s Olympic team,” Jim Smith, president of USA Hockey said in a release. “These individuals have been a part of some significant moments in USA Hockey history, from winning championships as players to building gold medal-winning teams as staff members.”
